FAST PIECE OF FURNITURE
Toledo based Fast Piece of Furniture formed in 2005 around singer and guitarist Tony Lowe, who had played with a variety of bands in Ohio for years, including Junior Electric.,In 2004, Jeff Nelson
(co-founder of Dischord Records and former drummer of Minor
Threat) visited Toledo because of his obsession with old Jeep
Wagoneers. After visiting the old Jeep plant and the Toledo
Museum of Art, he was stunned to come across the largest
neighborhood of Victorian houses east of the Mississippi. Having
dreamed of owning a Victorian for years, Jeff returned a year later,
and while looking at houses there with a realtor, he heard music
coming from the park across the street. Minutes later, he struck up
a conversation with the guitarist. Tony later gave him a demo of
his band, and jaded as Jeff was, he could not stop listening to it.
Although he had not played drums in 12 years, and was notoriously
picky, he was so impressed by Tony's guitar, vocals, and
songwriting that after moving to Toledo he came out of retirement
to join Tony’s band. After many different lineup changes, bassist
Mahlon Orrin and keyboard player Erika Kuester joined Tony and
Jeff to record their first album.
“Adventures in Contentment”, originally came out on CD in 2007, and is now being re-released as a limited-edition 12” LP from DC-Jam Records (a co-release with Adult Swim and Dischord Records). Only 250 copies were pressed of this deluxe package, which features a thick gatefold LP jacket, full-color inner sleeve, and yellow vinyl.
